We Met and Asked the Scientist Dr. Dor Edelist

As part of the unique pilot program we’re participating in with GeoCo, I invited Dr. Dor Adlist, a marine ecologist, to conduct a Zoom lecture to the class. Dor presented his work as a scientist and explained why and for whom citizen science is important. It was an interesting and engaging lecture.

I held a preparatory lesson ahead of the session. During it, the students were asked to formulate questions for which they could not find answers in the literature review. The day before the session, we sent the questions to Dr. Dor in a specific format (via a Padlet board) (see attached photos). The questions were align with the research topic the class had chosen. Collaborative group work is both rewarding and formative. In the second semester, they will submit this project instead of a test, an alternative assessment worth 30% of their grade. Representatives from the administration attended the meeting. Dr. Rachel Lyon, a representative from TCSS, joined the meeting. The students were asked to reflect on the meeting. (See attached photo)
