Terms of Use
The Website
We thank you for choosing to use the website (hereinafter: the “Website”), operated by the University of Haifa (hereinafter: the “University”). Use of the Website and of the content presented therein, through various end devices, and the performance of any action on the Website, are subject to the Terms of Use set forth below and to the Website’s Privacy Policy (hereinafter: the “Terms of Use” and the “Privacy Policy”, respectively).
Accessing or using the Website, including the information displayed therein, constitutes and expresses your consent to the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy. By doing so, you declare that you have read the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy, that you are aware of and agree to them, and that you agree to act in accordance with them.
In the event of any contradiction or ambiguity between these Terms of Use and any information appearing on the website, the provisions of these Terms of Use shall prevail.
The University may amend these Terms of Use from time to time. If the Terms are amended, a notice to that effect will be displayed upon entry to the Website, and your continued use of the Website shall be subject to the updated Terms. Continued browsing of the Website shall constitute your consent to the updated Terms.
Interpretation and Definitions
- The term “User” refers to any person or entity using the Website, including a casual visitor, a registered user, or a workshop participant conducting activities within the Website environment.
- The term “Content” or “Contents” includes information of any kind or type, including any verbal, visual, audio, audio-visual content, or any combination thereof, as well as its design, processing, editing, distribution, and manner of presentation, including, without limitation: any image, photograph, illustration, animation, diagram, figure, simulation, sample, video, audio file, or music file; any software, file, computer code, application, format, protocol, database, interface, and any character, sign, symbol, or icon.
- “Artificial Intelligence Tool” or “Chatbot” means any component of the Website or integrated service that assists in drafting, processing, improving, mapping, translating, classifying, summarizing, or creating related content.
Purpose of the Website and Nature of Its Operation
- The purpose of this Website is to create an interactive, collaborative online environment (hereinafter: the “Environment”) for establishing, enriching, and developing an existing repository of pedagogical design principles, and for promoting meaningful STEM learning in schools in Israel and worldwide through various educational innovations, including citizen science. Users of the Environment will be invited to participate in a collaborative, interdisciplinary learning process that integrates the diverse skills of community members and is based on crossing boundaries between their various fields of practice, thereby contributing to the continuous improvement of both practice and theory. As a result, the Website will generate a knowledge map that includes all existing pedagogical design principles at any given time, as well as personal or public participation stories linked to those principles. This knowledge map will include discussions conducted around such participation stories or pedagogical design principles, as well as descriptions of pedagogical innovations, including descriptions of citizen science projects within which the stories took place.
- Through the Website, the User may:
- Register, log in, and create a user profile
- View participation stories uploaded by other Users and the links made between such stories and pedagogical principles
- View the higher-order pedagogical principles and the pedagogical principles associated with them that are published on the Website
- Create or upload a new participation story of any kind, whether textual, visual, audio, or video, with the assistance of text-writing tools or chatbots
- Create or upload media associated with a participation story with the assistance of a dedicated chatbot
- Link stories written by the User to pedagogical design principles with the assistance of a dedicated chatbot
- Learn about and discuss the pedagogical principles associated with stories with the assistance of a dedicated chatbot.
Uploading Content to the Website
- The User may upload to the Website Content that is owned by the User and in which the User alone holds the copyright.
- It is prohibited to upload to the Website malicious software, advertising content, pornographic, racist, or inciting content, as well as content that may constitute defamation, whose publication is unlawful, or that encourages unlawful activity. It is further prohibited to upload to the Website any content protected by a third party’s copyright without obtaining the required authorization from the copyright owner, any content that may impair the operation of the Website, or any content that may harm the property of any person or entity (collectively: “Prohibited Content”).
- Commercial advertising content may not be uploaded to the Website.
- The Website may not be linked, whether by hyperlinks or by any other means, to Prohibited Content or to web pages containing such content.
- The University shall remove from the Website, whether by complete deletion or by editing, any Prohibited Content or any other content that it believes should not appear on the Website. The University shall have sole discretion in this regard and shall not be required to provide notice to the User before or after such removal.
- The University shall disclose the details of a User who uploaded Prohibited Content or any other content if required to do so by law.
- Content uploaded by any User to the Website will be accessible to the general public, and the User bears full and exclusive responsibility for such Content.
- If the University suffers any damage, whether direct or indirect, due to Content uploaded by a User, or if any claim is filed against the University by any person or entity in connection with Content uploaded by a User to the Website, the User undertakes to fully indemnify the University, immediately upon its first demand, for any damage caused to it as a result thereof, including attorneys’ fees and legal expenses.
- For the avoidance of doubt, the University bears no responsibility for the Content of the Website or for any damage caused to any person or entity due to such Content.
- It is prohibited to operate, or allow the operation of, any computer application or other means, including crawlers, robots, or similar software, for the purpose of searching, scanning, copying, or automatically retrieving Content from the Website. This prohibition includes creating or using such means for the purpose of creating a compilation, collection, or database containing Content from the Website.
Use of Chatbots and Automated Tools
- The Website may include automated or artificial-intelligence-based tools that assist Users in drafting stories, asking guiding questions, suggesting wording, summarizing, translating, creating accompanying materials, creating media, or identifying pedagogical principles.
- Outputs generated by such tools are provided solely as assisting suggestions and do not constitute professional, legal, binding pedagogical, certified research-based advice, nor any undertaking as to their accuracy, completeness, or suitability for any purpose.
- The User is responsible for reviewing, editing, approving, and verifying the accuracy of the Content before saving or publishing it, including factual accuracy, protection of privacy, obtaining consents, providing credit, avoiding copyright infringement, and avoiding the inclusion of sensitive or identifying information where not necessary.
- Users must not enter into the automated tools sensitive personal information concerning students, minors, staff members, or third parties, unless doing so is necessary, lawful, proportionate, and subject to obtaining all required consents and approvals.
- Users must not enter or instruct the creation of malicious software, advertising content, pornographic, racist, or inciting content, or content that may constitute defamation, whose publication is unlawful, or that encourages unlawful activity.
Intellectual Property
- All copyrights and intellectual property rights in the Website and in any Content included therein, except for Content uploaded by Users and subject to the license specified below, are the exclusive property of the University.
- The User hereby grants the University of Haifa a non-exclusive, irrevocable, worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free license to use any Content uploaded to the Website for non-commercial research, academic, and educational purposes, as well as for the purpose of operating the Website and permitting viewing of such Content in accordance with these Terms of Use.
- By uploading Content to the Website, the User confirms and declares that the User is entitled to grant the University of Haifa the aforementioned license. A User is prohibited from uploading Content in which the User does not hold rights, or Content for which the User has not obtained a license from the rights holder in the scope required under these Terms of Use. Where necessary, the User shall ensure that appropriate credit is given to the copyright owner of the Content and shall refrain from infringing the moral rights of the Content owner.
- It is prohibited to copy and use, or permit others to use, the Content in any other manner for any purpose that is inconsistent with the license described above.
Use of the Website
- Without the University’s prior written authorization, the User may not perform any of the following actions and/or acts while using the Website and its Content:
- Make commercial use of the Website and/or its Content, or academic use that exceeds incidental citation of Content from the Website, and/or use its Content for the purpose of creating a database, mailing lists, or compilations; copy, reproduce, modify, process, translate, reverse engineer, distribute, transmit, display, perform, duplicate, publish, or store any part of the Website and/or the Website Content, in whole or in part.
- Operate or allow the operation of any computer application or other means, including crawlers, robots, or similar software, for the purpose of searching, scanning, copying, or automatically retrieving Website Content.
- Display Website Content within any visible or hidden iframe, or display the Website Content in any manner, including through any software, device, accessory, or communications protocol that alters its original design on the Website and/or omits any part thereof.
- Distribute spam or flood mail from the servers through which the Website is operated and/or through the Website.
- Use the Website and/or the Content appearing therein in a manner that may damage, disable, overload, or impair the Website, communications networks, or any communications equipment.
- Obtain unauthorized access to the Website, to Content, information, User or customer accounts on the Website, or to computer systems or networks connected to the Website, by means of password mining, hacking, or by any other means.
- Disrupt or violate any right of another User of the Website, including the right to privacy, and/or collect personal information about Users of the Website without their express prior written consent, including by using automated means.
- Harm the dignity or privacy of another User and/or use the Website and/or Website Content to harm any person’s reputation and/or publish incitement, fraud, deceit, defamation, or any other information that is false, unreliable, or maliciously harmful.
- It is clarified that failure to comply with these restrictions may result in denial of your access to the Website and may expose you to civil and/or criminal liability, in accordance with applicable law. It is further clarified that any use of the Website that is not expressly defined as permitted shall be deemed prohibited unless prior written approval is obtained from the University, with all implications thereof.
Liability
- Use of the Website is the sole and full responsibility of the User.
- Without derogating from the foregoing, the Content on the Website is provided “as is” without any warranty of any kind. The University has not verified the reliability of the Content, and any reliance thereon is at the User’s sole responsibility. You shall have no claim, demand, or cause of action against the University in connection with the Content and/or its suitability for your needs. The University shall bear no liability for any consequence arising from the Content, from its use, or from reliance thereon.
- Furthermore, the University is not responsible and shall bear no liability for any damage, inconvenience, loss, distress, or similar consequences, whether direct or indirect, caused to you, your property, or any third party due to use of the Content and/or due to downloading Content and/or due to the uploading of Content to the Website by a third party that may cause you damage.
- The University does not undertake that the Website services will be uninterrupted, provided regularly or without interruption, secure and error-free, or immune from unauthorized access to the University’s computers, or from damage, malfunctions, defects, or failures, whether in hardware, software, communications lines, or communications systems, at the University or at any of its suppliers.
- You are obligated to indemnify the University, its employees, officers, and/or anyone acting on its behalf for any damage, loss, loss of profit, payment, or expense incurred by them, including attorneys’ fees and legal expenses, due to any act or omission on your part, breach of these Terms of Use, or violation of any law. Your indemnification obligation shall also apply to any claim, action, and/or demand by a third party against the University arising from any act or omission on your part, including breach of these Terms of Use or violation of any law.
Changes to the Website and Termination of Service
- The University may, from time to time, change the structure, appearance, and design of the Website, the scope and availability of the services included therein, may decide to charge fees for certain Content or services at its discretion, and may change any other aspect relating to the Website, all without being required to provide you with prior notice.
- Such changes will be made, inter alia, in view of the dynamic nature of the internet and the technological and other changes occurring therein. By their nature, changes of this kind may involve malfunctions and/or initially cause inconvenience or similar effects.
- You shall have no claim, demand, and/or cause of action against the University in connection with such changes and/or malfunctions that may occur in the course of their implementation.
- Without derogating from the foregoing, the University may discontinue at any time the provision of all or any part of the services included in the Website, including terminating the Website’s activity entirely. The University will publish a notice on the Website regarding termination of services a reasonable time in advance, to the extent possible. If the University decides to terminate the Website’s activity, it will retain the material included on the Website for an additional reasonable period following termination of the Website’s activity, after which it may delete such material and refrain from keeping any backup thereof, without providing any further notice.
General
- The University reserves the right to send, from time to time, updates and/or other promotional materials to Users of the Website by email and/or by text messages to a mobile phone, provided that, as part of the User’s registration for one of the Website services, the User approved the sending of such updates or promotional materials, as applicable, and subject to the provisions of the Israeli Communications Law (Telecommunications and Broadcasting), 5742–1982. If the User wishes to stop receiving such email and/or text messages, the User is requested to notify the University of this in writing.
- The use of the Website and any dispute arising therefrom shall be governed exclusively by the laws of the State of Israel, without application of its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising between the parties, including any dispute in connection with use of the Website and/or these Terms of Use, shall be brought exclusively before the competent courts in Haifa.

Privacy Policy
INSiGHTS (hereinafter: the “Website”) respects the privacy of the Users of the Website, located at insights.ac and operated by the University of Haifa.
The following Privacy Policy describes, inter alia, the information collected during use of the Website, the purposes for which the information is collected, and the manner in which the information is secured.
Types of Personal Information Collected
- Upon registration to the Website, the User will be required to create a user account based on the User’s personal details, including name, email address, occupation or role, such as teacher, student, and the like, academic institutional affiliation, and fields of interest.
- In addition, during use of the Website, information is collected regarding the User’s actions on the Website, including Content uploaded, edited, and/or searched by the User, as well as the duration of the User’s use of the Website, including the number and frequency of visits to the Website, the pages visited by the User, and the length of time spent on each page.
Purposes of Information Collection
- The Website collects information about the User and the User’s activities on the Website for the purpose of monitoring the learning process of the Website’s community of Users and their assimilation of the knowledge contained therein, as well as for the purpose of improving the Website, enhancing the User experience and the pedagogical principles presented therein, and improving the learning process in the institutions that form part of the Website community.
- Personal information collected from Users will not be transferred to third parties, except for service providers such as Google Analytics, unless the User has approved such transfer in advance or unless the Website is required to do so by law.
- Information published by the User on the Website will be available to Website Users according to their permissions.
- The information collected will be used solely in accordance with this Privacy Policy and the provisions of any applicable law.
Use of Cookies
The Website uses cookies to collect statistical data for the purposes described above.
Website Security Measures
The Website uses security measures to secure the database in which the personal information of Website Users is stored. The Website invests efforts in protecting Users and personal information collected from malicious access, deletion, and the like. However, such measures reduce the risk of unauthorized intrusion but cannot guarantee that such actions will be prevented absolutely. The Website does not undertake that the personal information collected will be absolutely immune.
Changes to the Privacy Policy
The Website may amend the terms of this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes to the Privacy Policy will be published and/or brought to the attention of Users by means of a notice appearing on the Website’s landing page. Such changes shall enter into force upon publication. Continued use of the Website constitutes consent to the updated Privacy Policy.
